To ensure a positive experience for both you and your hirers, it's crucial to prepare your van properly. Follow this step-by-step guide to get your van ready for hire on Camplify.

1. Clean and Declutter

Interior Cleaning:

  • Thorough Cleaning: Clean all surfaces, including countertops, tables, and floors. Don’t forget to clean inside cupboards, drawers, and other storage areas.
  • Soft Furnishings: Vacuum upholstery, and carpets to remove dust and odors.
  • Appliances: Clean the fridge, oven, microwave, and any other appliances to ensure they are hygienic and in good working order.
  • Bathroom: Scrub the bathroom, ensuring the toilet, sink, and shower are spotless. Provide fresh towels and toiletries (if applicable).

Exterior Cleaning:

  • Wash the Exterior: Wash the van’s exterior. This will make a good first impression.
  • Windows: Clean all windows, ensuring they open and close smoothly.

2. Maintenance Checks

Mechanical and Safety Checks:

  • Van Service - make sure the van is fully serviced prior to your first hire of the season.
  • Tyres: Check tyre pressure and tread depth regularly. Replace tyres if they are worn out.
  • Brakes and Lights: Ensure that all brakes, lights, and indicators are functioning correctly.
  • MOT - All driveable vans must have an up-to-date MOT. Any advisories on the MOT must be addressed and resolved.
  • Habitation check - a detailed examination of the van covering fire risk, damp, electrics etc, we strongly encourage you to have an up-to-date habitation check for your van.

Appliance and System Checks:

  • Gas and Electrical Systems: Have a qualified technician inspect the gas and electrical systems. Ensure there are no leaks or faults. It is important to have a Gas Safety Record showing annual tests have been completed. Check out our blog for more details.
  • Water System: Check the water system for leaks and ensure the pump is working efficiently.

3. Stock Up on Essentials

Kitchen Supplies:

  • Cookware and Utensils: Ensure the kitchen is stocked with basic cookware, utensils, plates, cups, and cutlery.
  • Cleaning Supplies: Provide dish soap, sponges, trash bags, and other cleaning supplies. Your guests are more likely to keep the van clean if you provide cleaning equipment.

4. Safety Equipment

  • Fire Extinguisher: Ensure a working fire extinguisher is easily accessible.
  • First Aid Kit: Provide a fully stocked first aid kit for emergencies.
  • Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors: Install and check smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

5. Information for Guests

User Manual:

  • Instructions: Provide a user manual with instructions on how to use the van’s appliances, systems, and features.
  • Contacts: Include contact information for yourself and roadside assistance.

6. Personal Touches

Welcoming Extras:

  • Welcome Pack: Consider providing a welcome pack with essentials like tea, coffee, milk, and a few snacks.

By following these steps, you can ensure that your van is clean, safe, and well-equipped for guests. This not only helps to attract more bookings but also ensures that your hirers have a fantastic experience, leading to positive reviews and repeat business. Happy renting!
